Restore the Earth Foundation Awarded $7.4 million USDA Grant for Critical Pilot Project in North America’s Amazon -The Mississippi River Basin

Restore the Earth Foundation, Inc. (REF) is pleased to announce that it was awarded a $7.4 million grant from the USDA Nature Resource Conservation (NRCS), Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).  REF has secured private investment partners to match and amplify this NRCS public funding for a total of $19 million, toward a collaborative private/public partnership to address managing and protecting the watershed, restoring degraded lands to native forests.

The Alliance for Water Stewardship and Restore the Earth Foundation partner to align a robust standard with relevant metrics to track progress towards sustainability goals

Corporations seeking to achieve AWS Standard certification and quantify the results of their water stewardship performance will now have the option to integrate EcoMetrics as a third-party verified, assured and transparent way to quantify and report on the environmental, social and economic impacts to the watershed, landscape, local communities and economies. The overall goal for both parties is to promote water stewardship by increasing the number of sites implementing the AWS Standard in North America and demonstrating results using credible and robust metrics. The AWS-EcoMetrics Crosswalk demonstrates how EcoMetrics supports AWS implementation indicator by indicator.

Restore the Earth Foundation Awarded $2 million from the National Coastal Resilience Fund to support a Green-Gray Approach to Gulf Coast Resiliency

The $2 million grant will be matched with private and public funding from Coca-Cola Foundation, Dow, Entergy, Shell Pipeline, Citgo, Terrebonne Parish, Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District and others. The funding will restore 3,000 acres of a historic bald cypress forest at Pointe-aux-Chenes, Wildlife Management Area in Montegut, Louisiana, AND retrofit an existing Terrebonne Parish pump to provide for a fresh water diversion into the Pointe-aux-Chenes wetlands, which will deliver 10-15 billion gallons of fresh water, per year.

Under Official Carbon Partnership with the IOC, Dow’s commitment is a pledge to the oldest and most powerful carbon capture technology–nature’s forests. In support of the Official Carbon Partnership between Dow (NYSE: DOW) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dow is teaming up with Restore the Earth Foundation, Inc. to replant 200 acres of native bald cypress trees severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in the Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area of Montegut, Louisiana.
